Cotato City – Health officials in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARM) confirmed a polio case in Datu Piang, Magindanao, on Tuesday, even confirming another polio case report.
A four-year-old girl from Datu Pyong tested positive for the polio virus, said Dr. Zulqarnain Abas, deputy minister of the Ministry of Health (MoH) in the region.
"The girl remained in the public hospital," Abbas said. He added that the Ministry of Health is confirming information about another polio case in Datu Paglas, Majuindanao.
Speaking to reporters, the health official said that MoH Barm will launch a massive anti-polio vaccination campaign next week.
Health officials at Majwandana Provincial Health Office have also appealed to all mothers in the province to bring their children to the nearest health center for the anti-polio vaccine five years and below.
The Datu Piang Polio Case is the second located in the BARMM, before the first case was reported in Manogong, Landau del Sur.
Following the Maragong polio case, another polio case was confirmed by the Health Department in Laguna Province, Luzon.
Murad Ibrahim, the interim chief minister of BARMM, has earlier called for his children to be vaccinated with anti-polio vaccine. (PNA)
